Our Build Architecture Awards, winning project.
A private client employed Spatial Design Architects to deliver their large extension and interior overhaul from conception through to completion, co-ordinating all consultants information and managing the project on site.
Our client wished for a contrast in architecture against the traditional house and wanted to remove their former conservatory to build a functional space that allowed garden views. The main challenge was opening the existing house with large span steelwork, this was achieved by extensive underpinning of the existing foundations and a large steel box frame.
The design derived from two interconnecting pods that formed the internal space, these were then individually designed, a smaller pod for the dining room that framed the garden with angled walls and soffits and the larger pod framed with a canopy that allowed large sliding doors to be set within, the two pods were connected via a hidden internal sliding door.
It has certainly become a space that has defined 'blurring the boundaries' between the internal and external spaces.
